Only good things happen to me: Focusing on the Positive

Recently, I had a day that challenged me at every level. By the end of the day I went to bed feeling exhausted and sad. At that moment, in the silent darkness, I felt uneasy regarding how I navigated through what felt like a waterfall of complication and bad news. These thoughts spiraled into feelings of failure.

The next morning, I went to the kitchen for tea and to write in my gratitude journal. This daily ritual creates a moment to focus on the positive. On this day, I spontaneously wrote the following:

I am grateful only good things happen to me.

I was super proud of myself! At that moment, I chose not to carry forward the feelings from the day before. And I had written a mantra I could carry with me. I had chosen to be happy, calm and ready for whatever was coming my way.

This simple sentence moved me forward by refocusing all the energy and angst from the day before to reflections on how all those challenges could be repositioned. It was not that all could be solved instantly, it just was the acknowledgment to myself that I can handle challenging situations because ultimately all things that happen to me are good for me. I could relax. I could be gentle with myself. I could understand that I never need to feel that I failed because all things work in my favor.

Do you train yourself to focus on the positive ? Do you look at life lessons as failures or opportunities for growth?

For me, a very basic action, writing in a gratitude journal resulted in a day and then a week filled with moments of joy. This tool, this practice works as a reminder that focusing on the positive leads to peace. Taking a disciplined and accessible approach to practicing gratitude is a tool for me that moves me more easily through the ups and downs of life.

For me gratitude is one of the most powerful tools I possess. What tools do you have in your toolbox to navigate challenges? Do you practice and use these tools to design your life and success?

Only good things happen for me and may only good things happen for you!

Remember to love yourself. You are worth it.

With Gratitude and Love,

Melisa
